No. The ARION White Edition supports M.2 NVMe drives using the PCIe interface only. SATA M.2 drives are not compatible. If you are unsure whether your drive is NVMe or SATA, check the drive's product page or look for the PCIe designation in the specifications.
02What M.2 form factors does the ARION White Edition accept?+
The enclosure supports M.2 2280, 2260, 2242, and 2230 form factors. This includes the short 2230 drives found in devices such as the Steam Deck and some Microsoft Surface tablets, which not all enclosures accommodate.
03Do I need to install Armoury Crate to use the ARION White Edition?+
No. Armoury Crate is only required if you want to control or customise the Aura Sync RGB lighting. The enclosure functions as a standard USB storage device on Windows, macOS, Linux, and other operating systems without any software installation. If you have no interest in the lighting, you can ignore Armoury Crate entirely.
04Will the ARION White Edition work with my Steam Deck?+
Yes. The Steam Deck's USB-C port supports USB 3.2 Gen 2, and the ARION was tested directly on a Steam Deck during the review period without any issues. It is a popular use case for running external game libraries. Note that you will need a USB-C hub if you want to charge the Deck simultaneously.
05How hot does the enclosure get under sustained use?+
During a sustained 100GB write test lasting approximately four minutes, the outer shell reached around 42°C as measured with an IR thermometer, and drive temperatures stayed below 55°C throughout. No throttling was observed. This is significantly cooler than cheap enclosures without thermal pads, which commonly exceed 70°C under the same conditions.
06Is a thermal pad included, and do I need to fit it myself?+
Yes, a thermal pad is included and it comes pre-cut to size, so no trimming is required. During installation you place the pad between the drive's controller and the aluminium shell. The whole installation process, including fitting the thermal pad, takes around two minutes the first time.
07What cables are included in the box?+
The ARION White Edition includes both a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A cable, each approximately 30cm in length. This means you can connect to modern machines with USB-C ports and older machines with USB-A ports without needing a separate adapter.
08Does the ARION White Edition work on macOS and Apple Silicon Macs?+
Yes. The enclosure was tested on a MacBook Pro running macOS Sonoma and was recognised instantly as a standard USB storage device with no drivers required. Note that on macOS you should properly eject the drive before disconnecting, particularly if a write operation is in progress.
