UPERFECT 15.6″ 1080P Portable Monitor Review 2026

I’ve tested enough portable monitors to know that most are proper rubbish when you actually measure them. Marketing claims about “professional grade” panels that can’t even cover 70% of sRGB. But this UPERFECT caught my attention because it’s one of the few budget portables that doesn’t completely lie about what it offers. I spent about a month using it for actual work and testing it with my colorimeter, and the results surprised me more than I expected.

The COOLHOOD 15.6-inch portable sits at a similar price point but uses a lower-quality panel. Moving up the price ladder, you get into territory where portables start offering 120Hz refresh rates or higher brightness, but they jump to well over £200.

What makes this UPERFECT interesting is that it focuses on getting the fundamentals right rather than chasing flashy specs. It’s not trying to be a gaming monitor. It’s trying to be a proper second screen that doesn’t look awful, and it succeeds.

The 1080p resolution is spot on for this size. I’ve tested 15.6-inch portables with 4K panels, and honestly? They’re overkill. You end up scaling everything anyway, and you pay a premium for resolution you can’t actually use. This gets it right.

I tested the brightness in various lighting conditions. Indoors with normal office lighting, it’s spot on. The anti-glare coating does a decent job of reducing reflections. But take this outside or use it near a bright window, and you’ll be squinting. The 285 nits just isn’t enough for high-ambient light situations.

The black level measures at 0.146 nits, which combined with the peak brightness gives you that 1950:1 contrast. This is why dark scenes look better than you’d expect from a budget portable. Watching films with letterboxing, the black bars look properly black rather than grey.

This means if your laptop is running on battery, the monitor will drain it faster. You’ll need to keep your laptop plugged in for extended use. Not a dealbreaker, but worth knowing.

The Mini HDMI port is there for devices that don’t support USB-C video out. Gaming consoles, older laptops, that sort of thing. UPERFECT includes a Mini HDMI to full HDMI cable in the box, which is appreciated. The cable quality is decent, not the usual flimsy rubbish.

The built-in speakers are exactly what you’d expect from 1W drivers in a thin portable monitor: tinny and quiet. They’re fine for Zoom calls when you’re in a quiet room, but forget about watching films with them. You’ll want headphones or external speakers for anything serious.

The smart cover is one of those magnetic folding jobs that doubles as a stand. It’s similar to an iPad cover, and it works better than I expected. You can fold it into two different angles: a shallow angle for when the monitor is at eye level, and a steeper angle for when it’s on a desk below your eyeline.

The magnets are strong enough that the cover stays put, but not so strong that you struggle to remove it. The cover itself is made from a soft-touch material that doesn’t attract fingerprints. It adds minimal bulk when you’re travelling.

Bezels are slim on three sides, about 5mm. The bottom bezel is chunkier at 15mm, but that’s where the UPERFECT branding lives. It’s not obnoxious.

I tested this with a few games to see how it handles. Input lag measures at around 12ms, which is actually decent. But the 60Hz refresh rate is the real limitation. If you’re used to 120Hz or 144Hz, going back to 60Hz feels sluggish.

Response time is typical for a budget IPS portable: around 18-22ms grey-to-grey. You get visible ghosting in fast motion, particularly in dark scenes. Playing something like CS2 or Valorant, you’ll notice trailing behind fast-moving objects.

For slower games though? It’s actually quite good. The colour accuracy and contrast make single-player RPGs look lovely. I played some Baldur’s Gate 3 on it, and the image quality was genuinely impressive for a portable. Just don’t expect it to compete with a proper gaming monitor.

Console gaming is where this makes more sense. If you want a portable screen for your Switch or Steam Deck, the 60Hz limitation doesn’t matter because those devices cap out at 60fps anyway. The Mini HDMI input makes it easy to connect.

The COOLHOOD portable is cheaper, but the panel quality is noticeably worse. The contrast is half what you get here, and the colour accuracy is mediocre. If you just need a basic second screen for spreadsheets, it’ll do. But if you care about image quality, the UPERFECT is worth the extra tenner.

The ASUS MB16AC is the premium option. Better build quality, proper ASUS warranty support, and slightly better colour accuracy out of the box. But you’re paying nearly three times as much. For most people, the UPERFECT offers 85% of the performance at 40% of the price.

Against larger desktop monitors like the Z-Edge 24-inch, this obviously loses on size. But portability is the whole point. If you need something you can chuck in a bag, desktop monitors aren’t the competition.

The positive reviews consistently mention colour accuracy and build quality, which aligns with my testing. The negative reviews mostly come from people who didn’t research what they were buying. If you know what a budget portable can and can’t do, you’ll be happy with this.

Value is about what you get for what you pay. At this price point, the UPERFECT delivers exceptional value because it focuses on the fundamentals that actually matter for a portable monitor: colour accuracy, build quality, and portability.

You’re not paying for gaming features you won’t use. You’re not paying for 4K resolution that’s overkill at this size. You’re getting a well-built, colour-accurate portable display that does exactly what it promises.

Compare this to portables in the mid-range bracket, and you’re paying £100+ more for marginal improvements. Better brightness, maybe 120Hz refresh, perhaps a touchscreen. But if you don’t need those features, you’re wasting money.

But here’s what matters: the image quality is genuinely impressive for this price. The 98% sRGB coverage and 2.1 Delta E mean you can actually do colour work on this. The 2000:1 contrast makes content look punchy rather than washed out. The aluminium build feels solid and premium.

For digital nomads, remote workers, or anyone who needs a reliable second screen that doesn’t destroy colour accuracy, this is the one to buy in the budget tier. You’re getting performance that punches well above its price point.
