The full review

How tall are you, and roughly what do you weigh? For this chair you can check both before you spend anything. SONGMICS prints a recommended user range on the sizing drawing for the OBG072G02: 152 to 185 cm tall and 50 to 150 kg. That sizing drawing is the best reason to look at it. The Dove Grey cotton-linen cover and the tuck-away footrest are nice to have on top.

Will your feet reach the floor?

The seat goes from 47 to 57 cm, a decent 10 cm of travel. The drawing gives 190 cm as the maximum user height, a little above the recommended range, but the seat height tells you more about the fit than the height label does.

At the shorter end, 47 cm may leave very short users with their heels just off the ground. A footrest block under the desk is the usual answer. The built-in footrest is no help here; it's for putting your feet up when you lean back. At the other end, 57 cm is generous for long lower legs. If you're above 190 cm, our guide to gaming chairs for tall people has more headroom.

Seat depth: pick a number

Seat depth is a muddle. SONGMICS's written spec gives the seat as "53 x 51 cm", Amazon's details say 53.1 cm deep, and the drawing shows 47.5 cm from backrest to front edge. Width at least is simple: the drawing puts it at 53 cm.

We lean towards the drawing, because it's the only figure that shows what was measured, but SONGMICS hasn't confirmed it. If seat depth matters to you, ask before ordering. The cushion is 11.5 cm thick.

Overall height depends on which figure you read: 119 to 129 cm in the written spec, 123 to 133 cm on the drawing. If the chair needs to clear a shelf or a window sill, allow 133 cm. The base takes up 70 by 70 cm of floor.

Living with a pale fabric

It's a woven cotton-linen blend over a non-woven backing. SONGMICS says it cuts down "friction noise", the squeak you get shifting about on PU, and fabric breathes better against bare arms in summer.

A pale woven cover is also less forgiving. Tea that would wipe straight off leatherette will soak in, and "wipe clean" is the only care advice. SONGMICS also warns against long spells in direct sunlight and against sharp objects, both of which make sense for light fabric that can fade and snag.

Oddly, SONGMICS's materials line for this colour says synthetic leather. The same text appears on the black version, which really is synthetic leather, while every photo and description of the Dove Grey chair shows fabric. It looks like the black chair's copy carried over, though SONGMICS hasn't said so.

Is the EN 1335 test worth anything?

Some. EN 1335 is the European standard for office chairs, and SONGMICS names both the test house, Bureau Veritas, and a report number, (6624) 075-1015. The report itself isn't public, and only SONGMICS's page mentions it, so treat it as a claim with a reference rather than proof. It still beats a bare "tested" sticker.

The same page says the star base held 1136 kg for a minute, again with no public report. That's a static test on the base, not a weight limit. SONGMICS rates the chair for 150 kg. Neither the gas-lift class nor the castor size is given.

Fixed lumbar, fixed arms

The lumbar support is a fixed bulge moulded into the backrest, so if it lands in the wrong spot for your back, there's no moving it. A separate cushion helps, or pick a chair with movable lumbar from our best gaming chairs guide. The backrest is 81 cm tall, 56 cm across the top and 66 cm at its widest.

The armrests are upholstered and sit 23 cm above the seat, which puts them 66 to 76 cm off the floor. Compare that with the gap under your desk, because with the seat raised they may reach the desk edge before you're tucked in.

The backrest reclines from 90 to 135 degrees. Amazon calls this a tilt, but it's the backrest moving, with no rocking or tilt lock described. The head pillow is strap-on and comes off completely if you'd rather do without it.

When it arrives

SONGMICS lists a steel frame and a chair weight of 18.9 kg. Amazon's details hedge with "metal or engineered wood". Most photos show a black five-star base, though one banner shows a straight-armed design, so yours may not match every picture. It needs assembling, with instructions and an accessory kit in the box; there's no assembly time given.

There's no maker's warranty on top of your statutory rights, so a fault is between you and the Amazon seller under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

SONGMICS HOME Gaming Chair Review UK (2026): Fabric and Fit

Our take

Rule it out first if you need to move the lumbar or the arms, because neither budges. Otherwise, it's a good fit for anyone inside that 152 to 185 cm range who prefers fabric to leatherette. Being able to check the fit before ordering online counts for a lot, and the named test report helps.

§ FAQ

Frequently asked

01What height is the SONGMICS HOME gaming chair for?+

SONGMICS recommends it for 152 to 185 cm, with 190 cm as the upper limit. The seat runs from 47 to 57 cm, so very short users may want a foot block under the desk.

02Is the SONGMICS HOME gaming chair fabric or leather?+

This Dove Grey version is fabric, a cotton-linen blend. A line in SONGMICS's materials text mentions synthetic leather, but that comes from the black version sold on its own site.

03Can you move the lumbar support?+

No, it's moulded into the backrest. If it doesn't meet the small of your back, add a separate lumbar cushion or choose a chair with adjustable lumbar.

04Does SONGMICS give a warranty on this chair?+

Nothing beyond UK statutory rights. A fault goes back to the seller: a refund within 30 days, then repair or replacement.

Should you buy it?

SONGMICS publishes who the OBG072G02 is for and names a Bureau Veritas report behind its EN 1335 claim. The lumbar bulge and armrests don't adjust.
