Does a VPN work with Sky Go?
Sky Go is the hardest of the UK services to reach from abroad, and the one most providers say nothing about.

Why Sky Go blocks VPNs
Sky Go layers three checks on top of each other. Your account is tied to a UK Sky subscription, the apps run device-level DRM that objects to anything that looks like a virtualised or rooted environment, and the connection itself is geo-checked against a commercial IP database that flags data-centre ranges. A VPN only addresses the third of those, which is why an IP in London is not on its own enough, and why a setup that works on a laptop can fail on the same account on a tablet.
What changes, and why a working setup stops working
Sky refreshes the blocklist of known VPN and data-centre IP ranges, so a server that worked last month can be flagged this month without anything changing at your end. App updates also tighten the device checks periodically. That is the honest reason nobody, including us, can promise a permanent answer here.
This page is for adults who pay for a UK Sky subscription and want to watch what they already pay for while travelling. Check your Sky terms before you travel: they set out where your subscription may be used.
Questions people actually ask
Which VPN actually works with Sky Go in the UK?
PureVPN's own page instructs users to connect to a UK server and watch Sky Go, with no caveat about detection. Every other provider we checked either warns that Sky can block VPN connections or publishes nothing on Sky Go at all, so the honest picture is that reliable access is far from guaranteed.
Why does Sky Go keep blocking my VPN?
Sky Go runs three checks at once: your account must be tied to a UK subscription, the app uses device-level DRM that flags virtualised environments, and your IP is checked against a database that identifies data-centre ranges. A VPN only addresses that third layer, which is why a London IP address alone is often not enough, and why the same account can work on a laptop but fail on a tablet.
Does NordVPN work with Sky Go?
NordVPN's support site carries no Sky Go article, and an independent tester reported that UK servers locked them out while Irish servers sometimes worked. That inconsistency puts NordVPN in the unreliable column, not the working one.
What about ExpressVPN or Surfshark for Sky Go?
ExpressVPN's own page explicitly warns that Sky Go can detect and block VPN connections, citing error code PFE 4002. Surfshark publishes nothing on Sky Go whatsoever, so there's no provider-backed claim in either direction for it.
Is there any VPN that reliably unblocks Sky Go?
Based on what providers and independent reviewers publish, no VPN can be called reliably consistent with Sky Go. PureVPN makes the strongest marketing claim, but even that comes with none of the caveats you'd expect given how aggressively Sky Go detects proxies.
