Why Sky Go blocks VPNs
Sky Go layers three checks on top of each other. Your account is tied to a UK Sky subscription, the apps run device-level DRM that objects to anything that looks like a virtualised or rooted environment, and the connection itself is geo-checked against a commercial IP database that flags data-centre ranges. A VPN only addresses the third of those, which is why an IP in London is not on its own enough, and why a setup that works on a laptop can fail on the same account on a tablet.
What changes, and why a working setup stops working
Sky refreshes the blocklist of known VPN and data-centre IP ranges, so a server that worked last month can be flagged this month without anything changing at your end.
