74.8% of UK PC listings didn't change price this week

74.8%Share of tracked listings whose price did not change

A matched basket of 4,935 listings tracked across 18 categories shows how much, and how little, UK PC hardware prices actually moved this week.

Nearly three quarters of the UK PC hardware listings we track didn't move a penny. Across 4,935 listings priced in both periods, 74.8% held at exactly the same price, which tells you more about how retailers actually behave than any sale banner does. The action, such as it was, concentrated in Cooling (down -5.7%) and Gaming Headsets (up 3.6%).

Three quarters of listings: no change at all

74.8%Share of tracked listings whose price did not change

Of the 4,935 listings priced in both periods, 3,691 came out at exactly the same price. That's 74.8% unchanged, which means the week's headline from most retail sites (flash deals, weekend sales, the usual noise) isn't really visible in the matched-basket data. The 1,244 listings that did move went in both directions, so the aggregate picture is quieter than the marketing suggests.

Cooling dropped -5.7%, the sharpest category move this week

-5.7%Weekly change in the Cooling basket

The Cooling basket, built from 89 matched listings, fell from £54 to £51, a -5.7% move and the largest weekly drop across all 18 categories. Six category baskets fell in total, though most of the falls were fractional. On the other side, Gaming Headsets rose 3.6%, from £40 to £41, matching Laptops for the biggest upward move of the week.

Gaming Headsets rose 3.6%, tying Laptops for the biggest gain

3.6%Weekly change in the Gaming Headsets basket

Gaming Headsets and Laptops both posted 3.6% rises, the largest upward moves tracked this week. Only four category baskets rose at all, so gains were the minority outcome. Laptops shifted from £569 to £590; Gaming Headsets from £40 to £41. Whether that reflects restocking, reduced promotional activity, or something else entirely isn't something this index can say.

Eighteen categories, most of them flat

18Categories with a basket of their own

The index covers 18 categories with their own baskets, each needing at least 30 matched listings to be reported. Of those 18, the majority of basket medians sat at 0.0% change: Graphics Cards, Networking, Desktop PCs, Motherboards, Processors, Accessories, Storage, and Gaming Mouse all held flat. That's a lot of stillness for a market that often gets described as volatile.

How we measured this

Every active listing is priced once a day. A listing earns one median price per 7-day period, and only listings priced on at least 3 separate days in both periods enter the matched basket. A category needs at least 30 matched listings or it isn't reported at all. The index measures the change in that matched basket's median, so it tracks repricing rather than shifts in what we happen to stock. Data runs from 2026-09-01 to 2026-09-14, covering 4,935 matched listings and 198,943 price observations across 39 days of sampling. Sources are Amazon UK, our AWIN merchant feeds, go.getproton.me, and our CJ merchant feeds. Refurbished and renewed listings are excluded. A product sold under several listings counts once per listing, not once per product.

How we measured this

Every active listing we track is priced once a day. Each listing gets one median price per 7-day period, and only listings priced on at least 3 separate days in both periods enter the basket. The index is the change in that matched basket's median, so it measures repricing rather than changes in what we happen to track.

Minimums we applied

  • Separate days a listing must be priced in each period: 3
  • Matched listings a category needs before it is reported: 30
  • Days of sampling a period needs to count at all: 4
  • Length of each comparison period: 7

What this does not claim

  • Listings, not products: a product sold under several listings counts once per listing.
  • Refurbished and renewed listings are excluded.
  • A category needs at least 30 matched listings before it is reported at all.
  • No individual product is named: these are category-level statistics.

Questions about these numbers

Frequently Asked Questions

It means 3,691 of the 4,935 listings we priced in both the previous 7-day period and the current one came out at exactly the same median price. No rounding, no approximation: the matched-basket median was identical. That's a precise figure, not an estimate.

Category baskets are built only from listings that appear in both periods and meet the minimum sampling threshold. A -5.7% move in Cooling's basket of 89 listings means the median of those 89 prices shifted, even if 75.3% of those individual listings were themselves unchanged. A minority of movers can shift a median noticeably when prices are clustered.

Amazon UK contributes the largest share, at 4,320 listings. Our AWIN merchant feeds add 610, go.getproton.me adds 4, and our CJ merchant feeds add 1, for a total of 4,935 matched listings this week.

Not quite. A 0.0% basket change means the median didn't shift, but individual listings within that category may still have risen or fallen. The unchanged-percentage column in the category table shows what share of each category's listings held exactly the same price, and that varies considerably across categories.

The index refreshes weekly. Each new run compares the current 7-day period against the previous one, using only listings that were priced on at least 3 separate days in each period. A period needs at least 4 days of sampling to count at all.
